Charge your electric car with ease when you install a convenient and cost-effective home chargepoint. At Hendy, we’ll arrange and cover the chargepoint cost and installation fees if you’re leasing your first fully electric car on the Motability Scheme.
If you don’t own your property or if it's a flat or leasehold, you'll need to ask for permission to have a home chargepoint installed. It’s also important to consider whether you’re planning to move during your lease too.
The first step is to apply for your home chargepoint and its installation with us. Once your application has been approved, we’ll arrange the chargepoint installation. This will be with Ohme or Easee, who will contact you within three working days of your application approval.
You’ll then be asked to take some photos of where you want the charger fitted and where your fuse box is located.
You may then be asked to contact your energy provider. Some people may need to de-loop their electricity supply if you share a single supply with a neighbour. This cost is not included in your package and must be organised with your energy provider.
You must pay for any costs for home adjustments made to gain access to your electricity supply, including if we must run cables from your main fuse box.
We also recommend your chargepoint is installed before your new car arrives, to prevent complications.
Please note: We’ll only pay for your first chargepoint to be installed, for your first fully electric car. So if you move home and you need a new chargepoint, you’ll need to pay for this and it could cost you from £750.
Ohme or Easee will arrange an installation date and give you a rough arrival window. All installers will be able to identify themselves so you know who they are.
Each installation is different, so it’s tricky to say exactly how long it will take, but generally it might be up to two hours if the charger isn’t too far from your main fuse box, and up to five hours if it’s a more complicated installation, including updating the electrics in your home or completing groundworks.
Make sure the area for your installation is clear and there’s space to access the fuse box or meter.
There are apps available to help you monitor your chargepoint – it’s worth trying to download some apps before your installation.
You’ll get a demonstration to show how your chargepoint works and how to use it – and remember, we’re always available to support you after the installation if you need it, too.
